My name is … and I’m 15 years. The main reason why I want to study abroad
in English speaking country is that I’m addicted to English. Although it is
not my second language, I found the way to love it.
It happened in 2008. Our class had to take a vote on which language will be
third after German. Of course it won English. I considered English rather
boring in the first term because my teacher didn’t like to work with pupils
and couldn’t explain the essential grammar to us. That time I played plenty
of computer games thus I obviously needed English. Therefore I asked my father
to teach me. That was useful and easy way for me, however, my father is lazy and
he didn’t continue with the lecture. There was the primary aim ahead of me:
“To learn English.”. I found a Czech-written non-profit website named
helpforenglish. I haven’t seen anybody like the owner of this website who
doesn’t interests in having the profit but in the joy of learning people and
spreading tips and hints how to learn efficiently English. There are reviews,
grammar explanations, competitions for TV series in English and many others.
According to a review I bought two books: English Vocabulary in Use and English
Grammar in Use. It changed my life. I’ve been learning 1 hour a day since
then despite swimming every day 3 hours. I didn’t cease to work hard and
results appeared soon. In year 2009, I passed the PET exams (Grade A 94 of
100). Nowadays I self-teach from Destination B2 and my short-term aim is to
pass FCE.
Besides English I do sports. I’ve been swimming since 2004. I was an
average swimmer having one favourite swimming stroke (butterfly) and being good
at it (5th in the Czech Republic in 2008(I was in category U15)). However an
opportunity to try triathlon appeared in summer 2009, I didn’t hesitate a
minute. I had been training cycling and running for two weeks before the
competition. Despite that I managed to be placed third in the Czech Republic
Championship. I couldn’t believe it because all of them had been doing it for
years.
I just love this sport. I can choose what I want to do according to my mood.
If I had decided to do triathlon earlier, I would have been chosen in the SCM
(sports center for talented juniors). What a pity it was when they told me.
These are my leisure time activities and now it’s time to show you my points
of interest in school. In my favorite subjects belong Mathematics, German,
Chemistry and English. In all of these I’ve taken part in Academic
competitions and my biggest Academic achieves are in Mathematics. I was placed
2nd in the last year’s competition (in our region).
In other subjects I advanced to region rounds. Besides Mathematics in school
I want to broaden my horizons being a member of Mensa. I passed the entrance
test on a camp last year. It was unbelievable; I had a result of 156 (only 0,3%
population has this) Since I do all these things, I haven’t got enough time
for other hobbies.
