modály WILL, WOULD

Chtěl bych se zeptat, jak moc je to používané? Je to spíš formální nebo i hovorové? Moc jsem se s tím osobně nesetkal.

WILL (pre prítomnosť) a WOULD (pre minulosť) skutočne používame na opísanie, popr. až kritizovanie typických zvykov ľudí.

Every day John will come home from work and lie on the sofa.
At school they would always sing carols in a choir at Christmas.

Na kritiku sa často v hovorenej reči to WILL a WOULD zdôrazní, obzvlášť preto, lebo sa už o tom zlozvyku hovorilo predtým a odignorovalo sa to.

She just won`t do the washing up when I ask her.
I wasn`t glad Ryan stayed. He would never flush the toilet.

Dôležité je, že zatiaľ čo v zápore to je jedno, v kladných vetách používame tento jav len pre VŠEOBECNÉ SITUÁCIE a nie pre konkrétne prípady.

Each time I had a heart attack he would call an ambulance.
Last week I had a heart attack and he called an ambulance for me.

When he was young, Ian would/wouldn`t eat any green vegetables.
Last week when I was babysitting for you, your children ate/didnt eat/wouldnt eat any vegetables.

Áno, kritizovať sa dá s WILL/WOULD „poza chrbát“ (teda kritizovaná osoba, síce o tom vie, že toho máte plné zuby, ale práve v tom momente jej to nehovoríte/ste nehovorili) alebo aj priamo, a to pomocou IF + WILL + VERB:

A: I feel sick.
B: Well, If you will eat so much, I`m not surprised.
A: I think I`m putting on weight.
B: Well, If you will avoid the gym all the time no wonder you are.
A: I`ve got headache.
B: Well, If you will work overtime all week, I`m by no means taken aback.
A: I`m really hot.
B: Well, If you will wear three layers of clothes even though its summer, its not surprising.
